The Reason Behind Staying — Reflections from a Property Owner I Met

property-owner Blog

Today, I visited a property owner I had been meaning to meet for some time.

As expected, they mentioned that they have already received many inquiries and approaches from various real estate companies.
This is quite common in areas where properties attract attention.

However, what stood out was that the owner already had a clear idea about what they wanted to do.

They told me that they are not considering selling or renting out the property at this time.

When I asked about the reasons, they explained:

  • The building is old and may have structural concerns
  • The facilities (such as no bathroom) do not meet modern standards
  • There is no strong need to generate rental income at this point

From a practical standpoint, their decision made complete sense.

In many cases, when owners say “I’m not interested,”
it does not mean they are unwilling —
it often means that it simply does not make sense under current conditions.

On a more personal level, the owner also shared something that stayed with me.

They spoke about wanting to spend the rest of their life in the place where they had lived since childhood —
a home and land inherited from their family —
and how simply being able to take care of the garden and live quietly there brings them genuine happiness.

It was a modest, single-story house with a garden, located in a highly desirable area.
It is easy to see why many real estate companies have shown interest in the property.

At the same time, I became aware that, as someone approaching them for business,
I was stepping into a very personal space.

Even so, they treated me with kindness and respect.

To be honest, I felt a certain sense of hesitation —
as it is only natural that homeowners may not want outsiders commenting on their home and life.

It reminded me that behind every property, there is a deeply personal story and way of living.

I left with a quiet appreciation for their generosity,
and a renewed awareness that I should always be mindful not to disturb the calm of someone’s everyday life.

This reminded me again that understanding the owner’s perspective is far more important than pushing a proposal.

In addition, I visited a few local shops and was able to leave my business cards and materials for foreign clients.

Having local information — such as good restaurants or shops — can be very helpful when assisting clients moving into the area.

Real estate is not just about the property itself, but also about the surrounding environment.

I also came across a property that is self-managed by a private owner.

In such cases, over time, various issues can arise, especially when no professional management is involved.

However, rather than pushing services,
I believe it is more important to position myself as someone they can consult when needed.

Although today did not lead to any immediate business opportunities,
it was a valuable day filled with real insights from the field.

I will continue to take steady steps, building trust over time.
